Roll out the fire trucks

When the boys and I were staying in the TLF (temporary lodging facility) on base, I went to give Zach a shower and the water was just so cold even on the highest setting. So I go to check the water heater (it was a house type with 3 bedrooms, full kitchen, living room, dining room and laundry room) and the light is out and from the smell of it had been out for a while. So I did the normal thing and called my dad to ask him how to light it back up. He told me not to light it up and to open all the windows in little room and the door (back door to house went through the laundry room) and then call someone to come light it for me. What can I say? He's my dad and he worries about me.

So I call the front desk and say "My pilot light on the water heater is out. Can you send someone to light it please?" They ask if I can smell propane and I said "Not anymore. I opened all the windows and the door so it's aired out. They say they'll need to send the fire department to check. Oookkaaaay. Not understanding that, but what choice do I have?

I get a phone call from the fire department asking about the propane leak I had. I told them it's just the pilot light out on the water heater and I aired it out. Everything should be fine and I just needed someone to light it. He said "oh okay" and I foolishly thought that was the end of it. Nope. I got another call from the fire department and he said I needed to take myself and my sons out of the TLF and they would be there shortly.

now I'm thinking "Oh good lord, I hope they don't use the sirens." Foolish me. I should have wished I only got one truck out to see us.

Instead I got not one, but two fire trucks with full sirens and lights going. I also got a cop car on each end of our street blocking off access to the road for anyone else, plus an ambulance, plus the fire chief truck and something else. Lots of cars and all of them with flashing lights and sirens blaring.

I have never wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole like I did at that moment. Seriously. I've never been so embarrassed in my life.

So they come in and bring special stuff to check the air and say "Ma'am our equipment isn't picking up a leak." ME: "Well lord I hope not. I've had the room airing out for 30 minutes now and I was really just expecting a housing dude with a lighter to come light it back up for me."
