Chick Parties

Zach had a chick party at school the last couple weeks which means we've heard about it for several weeks before the party. The chick party was something fun for the kindergarten students to do. The kindergarten classes were all given unhatched chick eggs that were incubated in the class until they hatched and then the chicks were kept in the room for about a week before they went to the farm. Zach told us about the chicks for a couple weeks before the class was actually given the chicks. It was... fun for us.

The day they were supposed to get the chicks, Zach told me "I don't need a lunch mom 'cause we're having a chick party." Okkaaay, I didn't quite believe him so I asked his teacher if it was true. She laughed big belly laughs and said they were having a chick party but "We don't get to eat the chicks Zach." Zach looked surprised, turned to me and said "Mom, I need a lunch." haha
Then Zach came home saying the chicks hatched and they named one Wes. I didn't quite believe that one either so I went in to ask his teacher (yes, I talk to her a lot to try and understand the things Zach tells me). She laughed again and said she had told the class to go home and think of names they wanted to name the chicks, I guess Wes was the name Zach picked.
After school that day Zach came out to where he meets me almost in tears. "We voted and they didn't pick Wes mom. I'm sorry Wes, I tried to name a chick Wes but the boys and girls didn't listen." He was so upset that his chicks weren't named after his brother. It was very very cute to see.
