Critical Thinking
Zach's teacher sent an email today to give me a heads up that a note about the critical thinking program was coming home. I had no idea what the critical thinking program was, but apparently she recommended Zach get in to the program next year.
It turns out it's a special class that meets once a week for three hours in order to focus on the development of critical and creative thinking skills related to problem solving. It's a small class and students have to have a high academic performance evidenced by school personnel and high individual ability documented by appropriate tests.
So basically he's smart and he now is going to a special class once a week in the third grade to do special projects. This makes me really really happy. I think the things we've been working on at home have really helped. I also think he's mellowed a lot this year and his teacher was pivotal in helping make that happen. He was really antsy and socially inept at the beginning of the year, he now has a much firmer grasp on what is okay to do at school and what isn't.
So there's our news. It's as close to a gifted program as we have here so it makes me happy he's in it now.
