beware the basement
I went to the basement today because frankly, it's just too messy. There's too much crap down there that we don't use. I decided that since we've lived in this house for about 7 months and rarely take anything out of the basement, we must not need it. right? right.
So today I was taking stuff out of the basement to sort in to my donate, toss, and keep piles. I knocked some pipe that comes down from the ceiling to the floor for the sump pump. A big chunk of wood fell down and hit me in the head. It was attached to the pipe but not nailed in to anything.
I went upstairs to put an ice pack on it and called Cody at work because I don't have the housing number. He called housing and they came out within the hour. They fixed the pipe (it's been bent oddly since we moved in), took the piece of wood down etc. Apparently the people before put the piece of wood up because the sump pump rattles the floor. Well, it rattles the floor even with that piece of wood. I seriously doubt their story and I assume it was shoddy work done to fix the bending pipe.
So they fixed the pipe properly and said they had to change our filter on the heater. There was a beat up tv in front of it that I had planned to throw away. It's missing buttons and has a big chunk taken out of it because the Japan movers dropped it off the sofa....
Anyway, they asked me why it was down there and I said because I couldn't bring it up to the garbage. It's just simply too heavy for me. One of them said "So you're just going to throw it away?" Um yeah, unless you want it. "Oh sure, if you don't mind." Nope, not at all. You'll be doing me a favor.
We couldn't find the remote (i found it right after they left) but they're coming back next week to fix the kitchen sink and the door to the boys' playroom. The playroom knob has no button. Which is fine... if there weren't a huge hole there instead. Wes' hand slipped the other day and his finger went into that hole. He cut it on the edge when he was taking it out and that hurt like hell I'm sure.
But the pipe is fixed, they took my garbage for me, and the house is a little cleaner. YAY.
