A poopy update

So Zach had his doctor appointment today for his 5 year well child check up/why won't he poop. Cody and I had given up on the doctors here actually listening to us that it was a problem and we've researched online ourselves with the help of some friends. Before we researched he was only pooping once every week or two and the poop was so big it clogged the toilet and hurt his butt in the process (no blood though). With the research, changes in diet, laxatives, and extra fiber we've got him pooping every 3 days or so.

Zach is too pale. Guess they couldn't see what color I am, but whatever. He also has gained no weight since last year and only an inch or two in height (and he's only gained that since we've been trying to fix the poop problem). The doctor said he doesn't eat enough. NO kidding? Really. Hmmmm Could it be the MASSIVE amounts of poop up his butt leaving him no room for food?

This doctor also seemed to be brushing off our concerns at first. I finally told him what we've been doing, just how big the poop was (bigger then Cody's which is saying something... ew) etc. He was just going to put Zach on something and decided to do an xray after feeling Zach's belly and us telling him Cody did an enema three days ago and that was the last time he pooped.

So we go down to the bathroom and Zach gets to pee in a cup. Then we get to head over for the xray. Zach was really nervous because he had to take off his clothing (except undies) and lay on a cold table. The huge machine was scaring him and the tech wanted me to stay outside. I said I'd like to hold Zach's hand so it would calm him down, tech said I could be pregnant. I said there's a snowball's chance in hell of that being the case and my boy needed me. I got a huge lead vest that went to my knees and I needed help putting on. After I held Zach's hand and patted his hair he seemed to calm down a lot which made it so much easier. They took a quick picture and we were back to the doctor.

Zach's rectum is about twice the size it should be. He has a massive poop right there and he's very compacted with poop. The doctor said the first thing he was going to do would no longer work so now we need to do a prescription enema on Zach three days in a row, we need to have him sit on the potty after every meal since after you eat your body tries to poop, and we'll have to give him this other prescription every single day for 8 months to a year. Yes that long. I'm pissed because we had family advocasy (military CPS) called on us because he was almost 5 and in pull ups. We've tried talking to the doctors before and no one freakin' listened to me. If they had then my tiny buddy would be a lot bigger and we wouldn't have to take such drastic measures to fix him. I saw how much poop is in there now (and that's after 3 big rex poops in the last week) and I almost burst in to tears. Here I thought Cody and I had been fixing him and we hadn't been doing near as much, but we're not doctors so how would we know. I'm so mad right now thinking about it.

Zach was okay at the doctor's office though once he found out no shots and we're on the long road to him being better. I truely do think part of why he's so small for his age is the poop issues. He won't eat because there's no room for the food to go and you can't grow if you don't have fuel. It's just been a complete and total nightmare and I hope that the enemas and prescription fix him or they'll have to do even more drastic measures and I shudder to think what those could be.
