First day of School

Zach started his first day of first grade on Thursday. He was very very excited for it all to begin. I felt like slitting my wrists at the thought of having to drive him to the most poorly planned parking lot I've ever seen that is also right by the construction now so it's even worse with the parking and of course since it is the first week or so of school, there are a lot more parents there as well. I hate it with a passion and wish that someone that actually used the damn parking lot could design a better one (it wouldn't be hard to design something better either) and they'd fix the issue.

At least Zach is excited though so that counts for something.

We went back to school shopping and I was explaining to Zach why we were buying certain items over other items. We paid the 5 cents more for his markers because they're Crayola instead of Rose Art and Crayola markers last longer. (Ohhhhhhh) We bought the 24 count crayons instead of the 16 count because the 16 count was $1.50 and the 24 was $.20. I explained that we could buy SEVEN boxes of crayons instead of just one and his eyes became huge while he exclaimed "That's just silly mom! Why would anyone buy the 16 count one if it's so much more monies?" exactly

We then had to look for a notebook and Zach wanted a red one. I looked in the 10 cent notebooks and couldn't find one and since it's the only item he requested a color on, I told him we could just buy the 75 cent one. He told me "That's okay mom. I don't need a red one, I just like red. We should buy the 10 cent one and I will buy a black one because we could get more of them and they don't look different." He gets it! He gets it and he's only 6. YAY!

The rest of the stuff on his list was all snacks foods for class, Kleenex, zip lock baggies etc. Weird weird stuff some of it and I don't think he needs a snack at school and if he does, why can't it be something I just stick in his lug bucket? The absolute crap they feed them bothers me. Then they wonder why American kids are so fat? Hello! You feed them food with very little nutritional value several times a day and you give them lots of it. You use food as a reward and you let soda companies come in and market to kids. Last year snack time was 15 min before school ended so what's the point? Just send him home without loading him up with goldfish, popcorn, m and ms etc so I can load him up with carrots and raw spinach and other healthy things kids will actually eat if you offer them that instead.

At least his teacher is very very nice. I heard she's one of the good ones and so far Zach seems to really like her as well. He loves his school and that he's going down the big kid hall. A friend's third grader is down the same hall and she offered to walk with Zach so he didn't get pushed around since he's so little. Isn't she just so sweet?

Cody got to take Zach to his first day. I asked Zach if he wanted mommy or daddy to take him and he said that "duh, mommy because daddy is at work" and then looked at me like it was a trick question. I told him daddy was home for a while but would go to work before Zach was out of school so Zach said daddy should bring him to school so daddy's feelings weren't hurt. Wesley and I bought Zach happy firstday balloons. We crossed out the birth part of the message and wrote first. Zach loved them right up until he left them out and the kitties attacked the floating monsters and ripped a hole in them. Damn cats. Good thing Zach loves his kitties.

Wesley starts school on Monday. He'll go three days a week so that I can be assured of my class times for my scrapbook classes. He's very excited and his school is right by Zach's school. Wes points out his brown school and Zach's red school every time we pass it. He was quite angry that he didn't start school when Zach started school, but he's so excited to go to it tomorrow.
