Decorating on the cheap

The boys and I have been having fun decorating the house using my craft supplies. Since we have to leave some of the fugly stuff here (it being military housing and all) we've taken to covering what can't be tossed all together.

First we had this fugly like '70 style fan that hangs above the table. We didn't use the fan because it blew hair in my face and blew out our candles. So I took off the fan blades and hung two rolls of handmade paper ($1 each) with some wire, fishing line and brads (another $2 at most) at transformed that. Spent another $4 on mirrors and $5 on bulbs and hung those from fishing line as well and transformed the lamp. It's still under there, but it's not ugly as much. The bulbs will come down after the holidays, but the mirrors and the paper will probably stay up. It looks better then the other stuff that was up there. When we have a little more time, Cody and I are going to get thin metal rods to put in with the paper to support it more and give it a better shape.

Then we put together the stereo system and heard rolling in the bass so we took off the face plate and the speaker and found SEVEN balls in there. Wesley had been putting them in the whole in the front. Cody got the bright idea to put "do not enter" on the front. He was joking. I was serious. MM stamps and stayzon ink later, there it is. It looked out of place so we did the other speakers to match.

now the other wall looked lonely. So I took some other rolls of handmade papers and some scrapbook paper and put them in frames we already had that had been holding family photos that I wanted to put in my scrapbooks. With that huge window, the photos would only be ruined anyway by the sunlight. I then layered them on top of each other. I put them in such a way that the nails are between frames so it looks layered, but I didn't have to nail through another frame or anything.the whole room was uber cheap to dress up, but it made it look so much better to us then what it was (very plain and out dated).
